GRADING
Easy: Generally easy going
with only short periods of trekking on good paths and at low altitudes.
Moderate: Suitable
for hill hikers with relatively short days on good to uneven paths.
You do, however, need to be in reasonably good physical shape to
negotiate the ascents and descents of any given path.
Strenuous: Not suitable
for everyone. Physically very challenging and suited for those who
have plenty of experience in trekking and hiking, for long stretches
of time. One would need to be concerned about steep ascents and
descents, which is especially demanding on knees and back.
WHEN
TO GO
Nepal's diverse landscape makes it possible
to go trekking and touring almost anytime of the year. The humid,
tropical Terai (lower Nepal) receives the highest temperatures (up
to 40c/103f in May) and the most amount of rainfall. The lower hills,
including Kathmandu Valley (900-2700 meters), are subtropical with
hot summers and moderate winters, and only occasional frost. Above
4000 metes, the mountains have a cooler, drier alpine climate; daily
temperatures vary wildly depending on sunshine, wind, and altitude.
Generally speaking, temperatures drop 6 degrees Celsius for
every 1100 meters ascended. For a better understanding of a regions
climate, just ask us, or consult your travel handbook (such as Moon's
Nepal Handbook by Kerry Moran where the above climate information
was extrapolated from), or Frommer's Nepal Guide Book by Karl Sampson
(which we are now listed in).
For the upper elevations of the places we
visit, we suggest these optimal times:
Nepal
- Kathmandu: September - May
- Annapurna: March - May & October -
mid December
- Everest Region: March - May & September
- mid December
- Kanchenjunga: March - April & September
- October
- Langtang: March - May & October - mid
December
- Mustang: May - September
Tibet: April - October
Bhutan: Mar-Apr, Sep-Nov
India
- Darjeeling: Apr-May, Sep-Dec
- Sikkim: Apr, Oct-Nov

Karnali Excursions' trips are carefully planned
and take into consideration the groups overall ability level and
pace. Our treks are planned for acclimatization, with gradual ascents
and plenty of advice for the novice trekkers.
